Lesions of the skin and subcutaneous tissue can be bothersome and unsightly. They may become infected, be cosmetically unacceptable or reside in areas restricting activity. On occasion they may cancerous. Any skin lesion that is pigmented, itchy, red or changing in character should be reviewed urgently. Most lesions of the skin and subcutaneous tissues (such as a lipoma) can be removed under local anaesthetic.
