What Does Cyst Removal Cost?

The Cyst Removal Process

A cyst is like a small balloon or sac under the skin. If it is pricked and emptied, chances are it will fill up again. Successful cyst removal involves general surgery, removing the whole sac, and this can be done safely under local anaesthetic.

The cyst removal process begins with a small incision made over the cyst, and the balloon is “peeled” out from under the skin. The skin can then be stitched together to leave a small scar. The scar is made as minimally obvious as possible, and the stitches used may be absorbable, or they may be removed 7 to 10 days after surgery. There may be cases where the incision is very small and minimally invasive, and a stitch may not be required.

What Does Cyst Removal Cost?

Private cyst removal costs can vary. They are typically based on the following factors, however, it is advisable to check in with your surgeon to determine the costs.

Type and Size of Cyst

Smaller, superficial cysts cost less to remove compared to larger or deeper ones. There are also different types of cysts, such as sebaceous cysts, epidermoid cysts, ganglion cysts, and pilar cysts, and each has different removal complexities and associated costs.

Location on the Body

The location of cysts on the body also plays a role in how much the cyst removal procedure costs. Cysts in more sensitive or complex areas (such as the face or genital region) often cost more to remove than those in more accessible locations.

Removal Method

The technique used for removal also affects pricing. Surgical removal of the cyst is largely dependent on the severity of the cyst.

Consultation and Follow-up

Initial consultations typically range from £100-£250, and follow-up appointments can cost £80-£150.

Anaesthesia

Local anaesthesia is usually included in quoted prices, but if you require sedation or general anaesthesia, that may add to the total cost.

Pathology Testing

If you’d like to get a laboratory analysis of the removed tissue, it may incur an additional cost of £50-£150.

Let Us Help

If you’re looking to remove a cyst, the process begins with a specialist skin surgery consultation with Mr Andrew Clarke. A cyst removal consultation is an opportunity to discuss the procedure in detail and allow the surgeon to determine that the lesion is a cyst. Other types of skin lesions that can mimic a cyst include lipomas, lymph nodes and skin tumours.

A cyst removal consultation is required before surgery is carried out to also find out if you have a single cyst or more than one cyst, if it is complex or if it has become inflamed or infected.

The cyst removal process is often very straightforward, and recovery is quick. If you are looking to remove a cyst, book an appointment with us today and let us help.
